It has been more than a year since Adult Swim's beloved series
Rick and Morty has been off the air,. After receiving an Emmy for the
Pickle Rick episode in Season 3, fans can't wait to see what creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have to offer this time around, and are clamoring for any possible information to provide them with clues as to the release date of the highly anticipated Season 4.
As of currently, there is no sign of any release date for the following season and no teaser as to what to expect despite the show being renewed for at least 70 more episodes. Because of the silence, fans are starting to think we may see a
Rick and Morty Christmas Special this Holiday Season - and while it may be a long shot - there is actually
some reason to believe that it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Similarly, there was no notice before Season 3's premiere which launched on another holiday - April Fool's Day of 2017. The last time we saw a post-credit scene from
Rick and Morty - at the end of Season 2, Mr. Poopybutthole then told us we would see Season 3 "in like a year and a half" and then Season 3's surprise premiere was almost precisely that length of time later.
At the end of the final episode of Season 3,
The Rickchurian Mortydate, fans are treated to a scene by Mr. Poopybutthole enjoying dinner with his family. This time he says "See ya for Season 4 in like... a really long time! I might even have a big, white, Santa Claus beard!" While some people might have thought that was a reference to the lovable character aging, fans now believe this means that we will see the Season 4 Premiere on Christmas.
Rick has also compared himself to Doctor Who, who arguably is the master when it comes to Christmas specials. While that is probably just a one-liner, we Rick would love to make sure he has the competition beat, and fans believe that is another indication that we may see a special this year.
What do you think? Will you be tuning in? In the meantime, watch the following video for more history on Mr. Poopybutthole.
Rick and Morty follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but fretful grandson, Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures.
