Disney's reboot of
Ducktales has done an amazing job paying homage to the original animated television series, and today's episode explored an age-old question and one of the show's biggest mysteries: "
What Ever Happened to Della Duck?!"
For those unfamiliar, Della is the twin sister of Donald Duck and long-lost mother to Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The aptly named episode revealed that Della has been in outer space, stranded on the moon, and struggling to find her way back to Earth.
It's an incredibly significant and heartfelt episode, but there was one moment, in particular, that'll hit
DuckTales fans right in the feels. Looking to comfort a baby alien, Della breaks out into a song that she used to sing to her boys before they hatched. It's called "
Della's Moon Lullaby," and it's a nod to the beloved song from the 1989
DuckTales video game for NES. Get some tissues ready.
Here's the original Nintendo version of "
The Moon Theme."
Commenting on the inspiration behind
Della's Moon Lullaby,
DuckTales co-producer and writer Frank Angones explained that the significance of
The Moon Theme meant they had to find a "very special place of prominence" on the show to use it.
He added that the lyrics of Della's Moon Lullaby serve as a mission statement for the
DuckTales series.
New episodes of
DuckTales air on Disney Channel every Saturday morning. It'll be interesting to see what the team has planned for Della Duck for the future of the series.
