With Disney's new animated series
Marvel Rising: Initation premiering this month, the company has been spending some time today spotlighting some of the cast - specificlly members of Gwen Stacy's garage band "
The Emm-Jays".
Kicking things off, Disney revealed Skai Jackson (
Bunk'd) to be the voice of Gloria "Glory" Grant, Gwen Stacy's friend and a
"funny, sarcastic and sassy" girl who is also
"smart and hard-working." While she's Gwen Stacy's best friend, it's revealed that Gloria feels a distance growing between them ever since their friend, Kevin, was murdered.
In more of a suprise announcement, it was revealed that veteran actress Tara Strong will voice Mary Jane Watson. While no specific details about Mary Jane were shared, Strong does have a robust resume with voice roles in many animated series, including
Rugrats, The Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans Go! and many acclaimed shows. She'll undoubtedly be a solid addition to
Marvel Rising.
That's all that has been revealed thus far, but be sure to check back as more members of
The Emm-Jays will presumably be revealed.
The
Marvel Rising: Initation animated shorts will debut on Disney XD on August 13 at 7:30pm, with the
Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors full-length animated feature film airing on Disney Channel this fall. The series will launch with six, four-minute digital shorts that spotlight
Spider-Gwen with her new secret moniker,
Ghost-Spider, and introduce fans to the world of "Marvel Rising." It will see some of Marvel's newest and most-beloved characters, including
Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Patriot, and
Inferno join forces as an unlikely new crew of aspiring heroes.
When a threat no one could have expected bears down on the Marvel Universe, this ragtag, untrained band of teens have no choice but to rise together and prove to the world that sometimes the difference between a “hero” and “misfit” is just in the name.
