Fans said goodbye to Ezra, Kanan, and the rest of the gang when Disney’s award-winning animated series
Star Wars Rebels came to an end this year with a fitting conclusion. The animated series, which was set between
Revenge of the Sith and
A New Hope, had won numerous awards during its four-season run and there’s a chance it could add a few more to the collection.
The Television Academy announced its 2018 Emmy Award nominations Thursday, and
Star Wars Rebels appeared in three separate categories: Outstanding Children’s Programming, Outstanding Music Composition for a Series, and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation. In all three categories,
Star Wars Rebels faces stiff competition including
A Series of Unfortunate Events (Children’s Programming), HBO’s
Game of Thrones (Music Composition), and FX’s
Atlanta (Sound Editing).
If you've seen the show, you're probably not surprised with its nominations. All four seasons of
Star Wars Rebels currently boast a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 84% audience approval. The 70th Emmy Awards will be presented live on Monday, September 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
While we, unfortunately, had to say goodbye to
Star Wars Rebels this year, Disney and Lucasfilm do already have plans for another animated series set in the galaxy far, far away. In April, the company announced
Star Wars Resistance, a new animated adventure series that will focus on the era before
Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The series will follow a young pilot by the name Kazudo Xiono, who is recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.
Star Wars Resistance is due to premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the United States and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.
