Donald Glover, better known these days by his rap moniker "Childish Gambino" has been on a roll lately.
Atlanta is a massive success for him, he'll be voicing Simba in
The Lion King, and his first single of the year,
This Is America blew people out of the water and broke charts in new ways. Now, for his latest video, he teamed up with Justin Richburg, an animator from Philly, to bring his vision to life.
Gambino had wanted to make a video with recognizable characters, 63 of them to be exact, and after seeing a piece of work that Richburg did for
Atlanta, Donald knew he was the man for the job. The piece of art that helped him make the decision was a dice game print of Tupac, Rhianna, Oprah, Malcolm X, and Kevin Hart. As far as
Feels Like Summer is concerned, if you pay attention you'll recognize the likenesses of those such as Young Thug, Beyonce, Michelle Obama, Nikki Minaj, Drake, and of course, Kanye West in a MAGA hat.
Although Richburg has been actively working on art since 2011, he talks about how mental illness is something that runs in his family and something that he suffered at age nineteen.
"Because of that I wasn't able to go to school and mom had to basically take care of me for the next two years after. I was finally able to get myself off of medication and get myself back down to my regular weight. I guess all those things happened because I didn't appreciate life like that and I was wasting my time. God will do things like that to wake you up. If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't be doing this." - Justin Richburg
While this may be the last Childish Gambino tour ever, according to Donald Glover, you can catch the full animated video for
