Fans of Matt Groening
(The Simpsons, Futurama) will probably have heard for some time now that the witty American Cartoonist and Animator would be treating us to another series, this time featured in the past and with Netflix as a cushion opposed to the primetime network slots his series had been used to prior. Now, we are able to take a look at the trailer for our first real preview of what this new show is going to entail.
The show will star Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon, and Eric Andre, with a supporting cast that features John Dimaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery, while animation is being done by Rough Draft Studios, who also did
Futurama.
DiMaggio, who is no stranger to working with Groening sang praise for the show in an interview with Digital Spy last month, likening it to Game of Thrones, while Groening himself said the following in a statement: "
(Disenchantment is) about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you."
If that isn't enough to sell you on his new show, Netflix also seems rather excited at the prospect, having already ordered two seasons, or twenty episodes. When speaking with Collider, Cindy Holland, who is the Vice President of Original Content for Netflix, went into detail on why she's excited to have Groening onboard the steaming service.
"Matt Groening's brilliant work has resonated with generations around the world and we couldn't be happier to work with him on Disenchantment. The series will bear his trademark animation style and biting wit, and we think it's a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans." -Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content
