Studio Animagrad dropped a teaser trailer for Hrafn Academy, a young adult animated series formulated in the Ukraine. This series isn't just any series debuted as the country's only submission at the Cartoon Forum in Toulouse, but it's also the first English-language series of its kind making its way from the country.
Featuring an aesthetic that could remind some people of those cartoons coming on late at night on Adult Swim, Hrafn Academy is about Hrafn Sigurdsson, a dying, desperate mad scientist enlisting the help of his talented students to further his crazy expirimentation to find a cure for his serious illness. The series isn't just some bizarre toon there to shock viewers, either. Its producers clearly took inspiration from the likes of Rick & Morty and Netflix's since finished critical darling, BoJack Horseman, in terms of not only its dark comedy, but also its storytelling, forcing its viewers to think while watching.
Andriy Zlanich created the series while Yevheniy Yermak directs and Iryna Kostyuk and Kateryna Vyshnevska work as a team producing the series. Yevhen Volodchenko of the Ukranian hip hop band, Kurgan & Agregat, takes to the studio to create the series soundtrack.
Hrafn Academy marks a drastic shift in the content Studio Animagrad takes part in. Previous series they've been a part of have been largely child-friendly, like Eskimo Girl and The Stolen Princess.
