Season two of Netflix's adult animated comedy series
Big Mouth will debut on the streaming service October 6. The announcement was made alongside the release of a new teaser, highlighting the show's edgy humor which focuses on the awkwardness of puberty, sex, and teenage relationships.
Based on Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg's tweenage years,
Big Mouth follows middle school best friends Nick Birch (Nick Kroll) and Andrew Glouberman (John Mulaney) as they navigate their way through the wonders and horrors of puberty. Guiding them and their friends on this journey are the hormone monsters, essentially naughty sex-based shoulder angels; Maurice (Nick Kroll) offers advice to the boys, while Connie (Maya Rudolph) offers her sage wisdom to the girls. Also offering the kids advice is the incompetent middle school gym teacher Coach Steve (Nick Kroll) and the Ghost of Duke Ellington (Jordan Peele). Season two will reportedly introduce the Shame Wizard (David Thewlis), the Hormone Monster's mortal enemy who "haunts the kids, stoking their deepest shame."
Despite the show's wildly inappropriate and silly antics, beneath all of the di*k jokes and masturbation gags is a heartwarming coming of age series. It explores not only how our bodies change during puberty, but what it's like to truly grow up as a person and all of the anxiety, drama, and even depression that can come with it.
Big Mouth will return for its second season on October 5. Netflix has yet to confirm the episode count of season two, but the first season consisted of 10 hilarious 30-minute episodes.
