The cast of CBS Studios' Among Us animated series just added three more actors. Dan Stevens (Solar Opposites), Liv Hewson (Yellowjackets), and Kimiko Glenn (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) will join Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, Blindspot), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Wilford), Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat, Always Be My Maybe), and Yvette Nicole Brown (Community, The Odd Couple) in the upcoming adaptation of Innersloth's hit video game.
Stevens, Hewson, and Glenn will voice three more crew members whose names are reflective of their color. Stevens will voice Blue, a doctor described as "knowledgeable, charming, so hot." Hewson will voice Black, a "stoic, corase, rock-like" Geologist who's tasked with supervising the ore shipments. Glenn will voice Cyna, the Gemologist tasked with "supervising the vibes" and "healing through crystals."
The Among Us animated series will closely follow the premise of the actual game, which actually doesn't have much of a story as it's basically an online social deduction game. The logline reads:
“Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
Developed and published by Innersloth, Among Us was released in 2018 but it didn't really gain mass appeal until 2020 when the pandemic hit. With many Twitch stramers and YouTubers playing it, the game rose in popularity, offering those who were an isolation a way to play with and interact with friends at a distance.
A social deduction game, players take on the roles of colorful cartoon astronauts. They are divided into two roles: Crewmates and Impostors. Crewmates must complete assigned tasks in the game while trying to identify who are the Impostors (who appear identical to the Crewmates). The Impostors simply try to kill the Crewmates.
CBS Studios' animation branch Eye Animation Productions is developing the series in partnership with Innersloth. The series is created and produced by CBS Studios, Innersloth, and creator Owen Dennis (Infinity Train). Titmouse is serving as the animation studio.
There's still no release date for the Among Us animated series, and no network or streaming service is currently attached to the project. But with this kind of star power in the cast, it's only a matter of time until someone hops on board.
