Adult Swim will revisit some of its most beloved animated series, announcing plans to produce three new original movies based on its shows Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Metalocalypse, and The Venture Bros. All three of the series were among the first original productions to air on Cartoon Network's late-night programming block, Adult Swim.
The Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie will be a continuation of the series, providing fans with a look at what happens next with Frylock, Meatwad, and Master Shake. Created by Maiellaro and Dave Willis, Aqua Teen Hunger Force followed anthropomorphic fast food products living in New Jersey who consider themselves crime fighters but in reality never actually fight crime.
The original series premiered in September 2011 alongside the launch of Adult Swim and aired 11 total seasons. It was also the network's first theatrical release in 2007.
The Metalocalypse movie will pick up directly after the heroic rescue of Toki Wartooth, Dethklok's rhythm guitarist, and will see the band face the ultimate decision. The synopsis teases: "Can Dethklok choose between their egos and the greater good of the world to embark on a gauntlet of dangers that will try their very souls and finally write the song that will be their salvation?"
The film will be helmed by original series creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha with the movie's soundtrack being released on WaterTower Music. Metalocalypse first aired on Adult Swim in 2003 and ran for four seasons.
The Venture Bros. movie is being created, written, and executive produced by Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer. The two collaborated on the movie after the original series was canceled by Adult Swim last year. The Venture Bros. was one of Adult Swim's longest-running series, first premiering in August 2004 and running for seven seasons spanning almost 15 years. The film synopsis reads:
Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt the Ventures or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them.
All three movies will be released globally on Blu-ray/DVD and on digital transactional video on demand (TVOD) and electronic sell through (EST), before heading to HBO Max and Adult Swim after the 90-day exclusive window.
