DISNEY'S CRUELLA: Viz Media Announces Manga Adaptation Inspired By Upcoming Live-Action Film

American manga publisher and anime distributor Viz Media has revealed the cover for its upcoming Manga adaptation of Disney's Cruella. The Manga arrives this summer, following the release of the film.

Next month, Disney's Cruella will hit theaters and the Disney+ streaming service. The upcoming live-action film serves as an origin story for the iconic Disney villain, exploring the events that transpired in Cruella's young adult life that ultimately led her to become the villain we've known her as for all these years.

Emma Stone is taking on the role of the titular character, who actually goes by the name Estella. And from what we've seen from recent trailers and clips, Disney fans are in for quite a wild ride as we follow this young grifter through the streets of 1970s London, amidst the punk rock revolution, as she attempts to make a name for herself in the competitive world of fashion.

Disney's Cruella will release in theaters and Disney+ on May 28th, but for those who just can't get enough of this magnificent character, VIZ Media will be releasing a new manga adaptation inspired by the live-action film. Disney Cruella: The Manga: Black, White and Red is releasing this Summer with Amazon posting a date of August 3, 2021.

It sounds like Disney Cruella: The Manga: Black, White and Red is simply an adaptation of the film, retold in Manga form. But it's possible it could also expand upon Cruella's story. The synopsis reads:

An adaptation to Disney's all-new live action feature film of a notoriously fashionable villain, the legendary Cruella de Vil.

You don’t become a legend by being nice.

She wasn’t born Cruella. Gifted with talent, innovation, and ambition, Estella dreamed of becoming a fashion designer, but the world seemed intent on making sure her dreams would never come true.

The life of an amateur thief is hardly a glamourous one, but in 1970s London, at the crossroads of fashion, Estella has a vision for herself and her designs, if only she can afford it! Witness Estella’s life on the streets with her best friends and partners-in-(petty)-crime, Horace and Jasper, before the infamous diva Cruella emerges to make sure no one gets in her way!

Viz Media shared the cover for its manga adaptation and the art direction definitely looks awesome!
