The COVID-19 pandemic not only caused quite a mess for the world in general but particularly for the movie industry. Theatres shut down, and upcoming films were delayed significantly. While it thankfully seems we're emerging from the pandemic, that doesn't mean that the fallout has settled.
Warner Bros. has decided to shift around the release date for a bunch of its upcoming movies, including Tenet, The Matrix 4, Wonder Woman 1984, and Godzilla vs. Kong. However, here we're going to be detailing that delay of the upcoming live-action Tom and Jerry movie in particular.
Tom and Jerry was set to arrive in theatres on December 23rd, 2020. However, that's evidently no longer the case. Instead, the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic cartoon series will now debut in theatres on March 5th, 2021 (as reported by The Wrap).
Tom and Jerry stars Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Michael Pena (Ant-Man). The cast also includes Colin Jost (Saturday Night Live) as well as Ken Jeong (Community), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Jordan Bolger (The 100), and Pallavi Sharda (Lion). Tim Story (Fantastic Four) directs a screenplay by Bryan Schulz, Cornelius Uliano, and Kevin Costello.
Moretz plays a hotel employee named Kayla, who enlists the help of a street cat named Tom to help her rid the establishment of a scampering and mischievous mouse — that mouse, of course, being Jerry. Pena plays her boss, Terrance. That's all we know about the Tom and Jerry movie at the moment.
