Aquaman fans may be accustomed to Jason Momoa's perfectly sculpted body, but there's a new take on the iconic DC character coming to HBO Max next month. Executive produced by James Wan, the director of DC's live-action Aquaman, the upcoming animated mini-series Aquaman: King of Atlantis offers a different spin on the character — and I'm not just talking about the animation.

HBO has debuted the official trailer for Aquaman: King of Atlantis, which looks to be a complete reimagining of Aquaman, Mera, and his royal court of characters. The tone appears to be geared more towards kids, both in terms of animation and comedic humor. That's not to say adults won't enjoy it also. After all, Victor Courtright and Marly Halpern-Graser from ThunderCats Roar! are on board as showrunners and co-executive producers alongside Wan.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis is a three-part animated mini-series with each standalone episode offering a unique storyline that follows the adventures of Aquaman as protector of the deep. The series begins with Aquaman's first day on the job as king of Atlantis, but quickly evolves into an undersea adventure of a lifetime with the promise of "monstrous creatures, devious foes, and epic battles."

The synopsis teases: "Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident!"

The voice cast features Cooper Andrew (The Walking Dead) as Aquaman; Gillian Jacobs (Community) as Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess; Thomas Lennon (Reno 911) as Vulko, the scholar; and Dana Snyder (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) as Ocean Master, Aquaman's half-brother.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis - Chapter 1 is set to premiere on October 14 on HBO Max.
