Season 7 of the award-winning Rick and Morty adult animated sci-fi comedy has finally been given a premiere date by Adult Swim.
The new season, which has been billed as Rick Prime vs Rick, will premiere on October 15 at 11PM est/pst.
The beloved animated comedy is currently embroiled in a bit of controversy due to the show parting ways with co-creator Justin Roiland. After being charged with domestic abuse, Roiland was let go from the show but he recently had the charges dropped after prosecutors determined there wasn't enough evidence to pursue a case.
Vocal fans of Roiland want him reinstated to his original position but the controversy surrounding the domestic abuse charges opened a floodgate of additional unsavory accusations against Roiland which centered on workplace misbehavior. Still, fans of Rick and Morty and Roiland are convinced that he's simply a victim of cancel culture.
Nevertheless, the show is moving forward without Roiland, who also voiced the show's main characters. It was announced that sound-alikes will replace Roiland however, their identity has not been disclosed at this time.
Season 7 will be the first Rick and Morty season that doesn't involve Roiland in any capacity and the creative team has previously stated that they're eager to show fans of the show that they can deliver something that not only matches but exceeds previous seasons.
In a press release, Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen stated, "It’s happening thanks to the talent of the entire show team, we can all enjoy 10 new episodes that yet again raise the bar for comedy and animation. This season proves that the geniuses at work on Rick and Morty are just getting started."
Hulu also dropped Roiland from Solar Opposites, another show he co-created.
Rick and Morty is the Emmy award-winning half-hour animated hit comedy series on Adult Swim that follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe.
