CHICAGO PARTY AUNT Revealed As Netflix's Next Animated Adult Comedy
Netflix is making yet another adult animated comedy with the upcoming Chicago Party Aunt series, based on a relatively small Twitter account.
With the success Netflix has seen with other adult animated comedies, they are trying their hand again with a brand-new comedy under the name of Chicago Party Aunt. The series, which is slated to start streaming this September, is based on a fictional character formulated by improv and sketch vet, Chris Witaske.
As the name implies, the series -- alongside the Twitter account -- follows a booze-dependent middle-aged Chicago woman who's down to turn lemons into Mike's Hard Lemonade. While the name is Chicago Party Aunt, Witaske has revealed her name to be Diane Dunbrowski.
The series has been created by not only Witaske, but also Superstore's Jon Barinholtz and SNL alum, Katie Rich. On the animation front, Titmouse, which is well-known for the likes of Big Mouth and lately the well-recieved Netflix Original, Arlo the Alligator Boy, and a lot more, was tapped to produce 16 half-hour episodes.
Matt Craig of the New Looney Toons and LEGO City Adventures takes the helm as the series' showrunner while Ike Barinholtz and Dave Stassen, Will Gluck and Richie Schwartz, and Chris Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina all are acting as executive producers. In the voice side of things, the series will feature Superstore's Lauren Ash as the namesake character.
Chicagoans should be on the look-out, too, as there will be easter eggs best seen if you're from the area. Chicago Party Aunt will premiere on Netflix on September 17.
