REVIEW: The Spectacular Spider-Man

The WonderCon premiered the first episode of "The Spectacular Spider-Man" take the jump for details on the show.

In “Survival of the Fittest” we find Peter Parker running around as your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on the eve of his return to high school to start his Jr. year.

Spidey is fighting off some robbers on a rooftop, one of whom wore a stripped green shirt and he’s being caught on film. The result of that is a team called "The Enforcers" is put together to squash the bug. Then at the same time Norman Osborne, at Oscorp, has acquired the flight technology of Adrian Toomes who once spurned is set to seek revenge as The Vulture (Voiced by Robert Englund).

On that first day of school Peter is determined to take advantage of his new self-confidence and change in character, but of course things don’t always work out as planned. First Peter’s over hears Aunt May is
in need of financial help, then his advanced with a popular girl fail and Flash Thompson is still the big bully.

So far there are plenty of fun action bits of Spidey swinging around the city using his homemade web shooter while chasing bad buys and being chased back. With the Enforcers hot on his tail Spidey still has to save Norman Osborne from the Vulture and offer up some fun quips and commentary through it all.

The Spectacular Spider-Man is set to take on the entire Spidey universe with a promising start. There were a ton of hints to major stories to come for the rest of the season. Peter’s world already includes the likes of Gwen Stacy, Eddie Brock, Harry Osborne, Flash
Thompson, Aunt May and Dr. Curt Connors, just to name a few.

The animation style is very fresh and vibrant and I’m anxious to see more of every character especially the potential villains as they turn to the dark side.

Tune in Saturday March 8 for an hour premiere with the first two episodes of the series, “Survival of the Fittest” followed by “Interactions” which will feature Electro. A lot of web-slinging action is guaranteed.

(Gargoyle fans will also enjoy two little cameos of gargoyle statues. Keep an eye out.)
