Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis has been tapped by Walt Disney Studios to direct a live-action remake of
Pinocchio — according to a recent report by
Variety.
The
Back to the Future trilogy it what the director is best known for. However, he's also responsible for the likes of
Who Framed Roger Rabbit,
Forrest Gump,
Cast Away, and many more classics.
It's said that Zemeckis has had his eye on the project for months now but wanted to finish up his work on his The Witches remake for Warner Bros. — that will star Anne Hathaway. Now that's all done and dusted, he's ready to move onto another project and make things official. Thus, it has been officially announced that he'll helm the
Pinocchio film for Disney.
Zemeckis will reportedly begin the casting process some time soon and the actor who shall play the role of Geppetto will likely be the first that's decided upon — previously, Tom Hanks was to play the character but soon dropped out.
It's worth noting that another live-action
Pinocchio film is also in the works from another Academy Award-winning director. However, Guillermo Del Toro's
Pinocchio is said to be a political parable which a much darker tone than anything you'd expect Disney to come out with and, thus; the two are entirely disconnected —
